Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do if my performer is not feeling well on the day of the performance?

  • For the health and safety of all performers and staff, we ask that you refrain from attending the performance if your dancer is ill.

  • Dancers are welcome to mask up while waiting backstage.

When do I arrive?

  • Performers should arrive no earlier than 30-minutes before their showtime.

  • All performers need to be checked in 15-minutes prior to showtime.

Where do I park?

  • When you arrive at the Castro Valley Center for the Arts there is street parking and a lot located next to the theatre, you can park in any open space in the parking lot. You can also street park.

Where do I take my student?

  • As you approach the theater, there is a walkway/stairs to the left of the building that will take you to the SIDE entrance of the building. Signage will lead you to the student check-in area.

  • Do not take dancers to the lobby. If you go to the theater lobby, you will be asked to go back out and take your dancer to the stage door.

Where will I pick up my dancer at the end of the show?

  • At the conclusion of the show, we will explain the route for student pickup.  NO DANCERS WILL BE RELEASED BEFORE THE CONCLUSION OF THEIR SHOW.

What is the hair and make-up for the show?

  • When in doubt, hair should be in a clean bun.

  • Use hair elastics that blend with hair color (no bright colors).

  • Video of Miss Serena putting a student’s hair in a bun.

  • If your costume has a hairpiece, it should be applied to the right of the bun, unless otherwise specified.

  • Make-up: Make-up is needed to enhance natural features under the stage lights.  As a general rule, some pink blush and red lipstick are what are needed for most classes. Eye shadow is great, but keep the colors neutral.  More makeup details are available on the Costume, Hair and Make up sheet on our website.

Do you have flowers for sale at the shows?

  • We have a vendor providing flowers at the recital. There may be some available for purchase on-site, but pre-orders are strongly recommended.

  • Don’t forget you can also purchase/order commemorative show shirts from the floral vendor.
