Hair for performance

I am not sure what to do with my dancer’s hair for the show!

Preparing hair for performance helps dancers feel confident and stage-ready. Below are short videos that provide general techniques for recital hair, including guidance for textured and non-textured hair and the use of hairpieces. If you have questions about your dancer’s hairstyle or hairpiece, please reach out to their teacher for guidance.

These videos offer helpful approaches, not one single rule. Every dancer’s hair is different, so please use products and tools that work best for your dancer while following the requested performance look.

Placing Headpieces

How to place and apply a variety of types of costume headpieces you may encounter.

Non-Textured Hair

This is helpful for ponytail and bun preparations. Tips can also be useful for 1/2 and 1/2 down and short hairstyles.

Hair Supplies

All links are for Sally Beauty Supply, but you can find items at CVS, Target, and Walgreens

All items need to match hair color as close as possible, no bight colors.

Note: This may seem like a lot of items, but if you get a small pouch to keep them all in, you can reuse it and create a kit you can use for a while.
